| | JAKARTA – Indonesia dan Australia memiliki sejarah panjang dalam kerja sama hidrografi. Selama bertahun-tahun kerja sama ini melibatkan kegiatan pertukaran pelatihan, survei bersama, kunjungan ke masing-masing institusi hidrografi dan keterlibatan dalam kegiatan regional seperti International Hydrographic Organisation. Namun, dikarenakan adanya komitmen operasional lainnya pada kedua Angkatan Laut, maka kerja sama ini mengalami penurunan belakangan ini. Kunjungan Laksma Brett Brace selaku hidrografer Australia dan Director General Hydrography, Oceanography dan Meteorology untuk Angkatan Bersenjata Australia, telah bangkitkan kembali kerja sama hidrografi antar kedua negara. |
| Kunjungan Laksma Brace ke Jakarta selama tiga hari, terhitung sejak tanggal 9 – 11 Oktober, merupakan undangan dari rekannya Kepala Pusat Hidrologi dan Oseanografi Laksda TNI Harjo Susmoro. Kunjungan yang produktif melibatkan kunjungan ke Pusat Pelatihan Kapushidros yang mencakup peninjauan pusat produksi grafik, fasilitas pelatihan siswa dan mengamati pusat data hidrografik yang canggih. | |
| Diskusi antar kedua hidrografer nasional tersebut sangat bermanfaat dan membahas secara luas hingga menghasilkan rencana kerjasama hidrografi mulai dari meningkatkan pertukaran staf, kerja sama memperbaiki data hidrografi kedua negara serta memperluas dukungan multilateral untuk hidrografi. | |
| Beberapa hasil penting dari kunjungan tersebut adalah kunjungan balasan yang akan dilakukan oleh sejumlah pakar hidrografi Indonesia ke Australian Hydrograpic Charting Office dan pelaksanaan latihan Subject Matter Expert Exchange di kapal HMAS Leeuwin, sebuah kapal hidrografi Australia, saat mengunjungi Bali bulan Desember 2017. |

| Disela kunjungan kerjasamanya dengan Laksda Harjo, Laksma Brace memberikan presentasi yang informatif dan menarik pada IKAHAN Lecture Night, 8 October 2017. Beliau mengangkat tema Martime Charting and Regional Co-operationbersama Profesor Hasanuddin Z. Abidin, Kepala Badan Geospasial Indonesia. Topik tersebut telah menarik banyak minat dari anggota IKAHAN dan teman-teman dari TNI sehingga ruangan malam itu telihat penuh sekali!Dapat dikatakan bahwa bangkitnya kerjasama hidrografi ini telah memastikan hubungan kedua angkatan laut kita kembali ke peta awal! | |

RE-INVIGORATING HYDROGRAPHIC CO-OPERATION
Indonesia and Australia have a long history of hydrographic co-operation. Over the years this co-operation has included; mutual training exchanges, joint survey activity, reciprocal visits to respective Hydrographic institutions and participation in regional for a such as the International Hydrographic Organisation. Unfortunately, due to pressing operational commitments for both navies, co-operative activity had decreased slightly in recent times. This has been re-invigorated by the recent visit of Commodore (CDRE) Brett Brace, the Australian Hydrographer and also the Director General Hydrography, Oceanography and Meteorology for the ADF.
CDRE Brace recently visit Jakarta 9-11 October 2017, at the invitation of his counterpart, RADM Harjo Susmoro, the Commander of the Indonesian Hydrographic Centre (Kapushidros), who is also the national Indonesian Hydrographer. The visit was very productive and involved a visit to the Kapushidros training centre in Jakarta, that included a tour of the chart production centre, student training facilities and the hi tech Hyrographic Data Centre.
The discussions the two national hydrographers were very fruitful and extensive and allowed them to explore a wide variety of hydrographic co-operative issues, ranging from further enhancing personnel exchanges, working together to improve electronic chart data information of waters between the two countries, and extend multilateral support for hydrography.
Some key outcome of the visit, will include a follow on visit by Indonesian hydrographers to the Australian Hydrographic Charting Office, as well as a Subject Matter Expert exchange onboard HMAS Leeuwin, a hydrographic survey ship, when it visits Bali in December 2017.
In addition to his co-operative discussions with RADM Harjo, CDRE Brace also gave an informative and interesting presentation at an IKAHAN Lecture Night on the 8 October 2017. He co-presented on the topic of “Maritime Charting and Regional Co-operation” together with Professor Hasanuddin Z. Abidin, Head of Indonesian Geospatial Agency. Clearly the talk was a topic of interest as the lecture venue was packed out, with standing room only!
It’s fair to say, that the renewed engagement between our navies will ensure we have put the relationship “back on the map”!
